"I had a tiring, yet beautiful and successful life. If I had the chance to turn this film back to the beginning, I would do almost everything the same as I did."

With the autobiography Everyone Calls Me Tona, which marks his eightieth birthday and was created together with columnist and journalist Marko Radmilovič, Tone Vogrinec, one of the most important and influential, but also most controversial names in Slovenian alpine skiing, introduces himself. As the book's co-author Marko Radmilovič explains in his characteristic style, the history of Slovenian skiing has produced almanacs, collections, thousands of articles, publications, interviews and similar printed matter, but the pearl was waiting in the shell. "Until the corona, when Tone Vogrinec and Marko Radmilovič met. Both skiers. One by profession, the other by soul. The story of Slovenian skiing, today an almost forgotten pensioner from Maribor, carried within him from the first sentence to the last. Is he a master with a plan or is it a sequence of incredible coincidences? Is Bojan Križaj a product or a force of nature? These are the questions that the autobiography unequivocally answers.” It not only answers the enigmas of Slovenian skiing, which in the eighties was bigger and more important than Slovenian politics and the economy combined, emphasizes Radmilovič, but also outlines a time that was so very different from the one we live in today. “And Tona not only lived this time, but also co-shaped it. Which is the first and only condition for a really good (auto)biographical work.” Vogrinec is a great sports hero of the eighties, who at that time led Yugoslav skiing from cooperation to victory and enabled the development of numerous top competitors, while at the same time many still blame him for the premature departure of some of our greatest aces of this sport. The book, which boasts almost 500 pages, dynamically and smoothly takes us through the path and life trials of this legendary Slovenian. It is brimming with anecdotes, stories, and colorful tales, and will appeal to both those who remember the 1980s with nostalgia, as well as those who did not experience it, as it paints a unique and vibrant portrait of the era and the cosmopolitan creator of great stories within it.
