Juliana - Janko Humar
Long-distance hiking trail
The Juliana Trail is a 270-kilometre long hiking trail that embraces the entire eastern part of the Julian Alps. On it, we will not climb Triglav or other peaks, but will circle it through alpine valleys, along rivers and lakes, through forests and over passes. We will walk outside the main tourist flows, experiencing the diversity and uniqueness of our mountains through authentic experiences.
Juliana also connects some of our most famous tourist towns, such as Kranjska Gora, Bled, Bohinj and Bovec, but it is to the greatest extent possible routed through less visited valleys and towns, often along old, almost forgotten paths.
Since the trail is circular, it can be started anywhere, but officially it begins in Kranjska Gora, follows the Sava Dolinka to Radovljica, ascends past Bled to Pokljuka, descends into Bohinj, and crosses the Tolmin-Bohinj ridge into the Baška Grapa and further towards Most na Soči. From there, we follow the course of the Soča River and return via Predel and past Lake Belopek to the Sava River valley, to Kranjska Gora.
Individual stages are enlivened by descriptions of interesting sights along the way and local stories, prepared by Katja Humar.
The basic loop can be extended in Kobarid with a three-day trek through the Breginj corner, or in Tolmin we can turn onto the Kanal-Brda loop to Solkan.
Basic loop:
- 270 km - 16 stages (3–7 h walking, average 5–6 h)
Extended Juliana:
- Breginj loop starting in Kobarid - 3 stages (3.30 h–5 h)
- Kanal-Brda loop from Tolmin to Solkan - 4 stages (4 h–7 h)
