Wandering - Samo Rugelj
With my son from the Drava to the Adriatic along the E6 and the ancient Amber Road
A travelogue that breathes with the rhythm of walking, it is an ode to the free wanderings of a father and son along the ancient amber road.
Along the ancient path from the Drava to the Adriatic
Slovenia is crisscrossed by hiking trails, some of which are also included in a wider international network. One of these is the European Long Distance Path E6, which runs from the northeast to the southwest of Slovenia. It recently celebrated half a century since its establishment and follows the ancient amber road, which runs from Northern Europe to the Mediterranean.
50 years later and in the company of his firstborn
Samo Rugelj, a lifelong hiker, otherwise an editor and publisher, first embarked on the E6 path as a young man, with a scouting group. This primal wandering and sleeping in haylofts left him with unforgettable memories. Almost half a century later, now as a father, he set out again on this path with his firstborn son, Jan, to once again enjoy nature, exertion, and his son's company. Vandranje is an evocative travelogue that breathes with the rhythm of walking, and at the same time an ode to the free wanderings of a father and son across Slovenian land, which, if you intend to cross it on foot, from north to south, proves to be a diverse and not so small country.
