Mother's Day is a special holiday dedicated to all mothers, grandmothers, and maternal figures who play an important role in our lives. It is an opportunity to thank them for everything they do for us and to show them how much we appreciate them. But why do we celebrate Mother's Day at all? How did this tradition begin, and how can we express our gratitude in the best way possible?
Source of Mother's Day
Mother's Day has a long history that dates back to ancient civilizations. The ancient Greeks and Romans honored goddesses of motherhood, such as Rhea and Cybele. In modern times, the holiday is associated with the efforts of Anna Jarvis, who began a campaign in the early 20th century in the USA for the official recognition of Mother's Day as a holiday. In 1914, it was officially recognized in the USA for the first time, and soon after, it was adopted by many other countries around the world.
In Slovenia, Mother's Day is celebrated on March 25, the day when Catholics commemorate the Feast of the Annunciation. It is a day to remember the immeasurable love and dedication of mothers and to thank them for everything they do for us.
