My tenth book, which combines the other nine and adds thirty years of childhood, youth, and first travels.A shepherd from Gorjanci who became a high school student and decided to study journalism. Because journalists travel, although in those years even the sea was unreachable for farm children. But at the age of twenty, I also truly discovered a world that never let me go: Europe, Asia, Africa, both Americas – all this by hitchhiking.
Then I met a girl who became and remained a part of my life. Romana and I traveled around the world on a motorcycle for four years. Kaja was born and we went around again for a year. Grega was born and we traveled again. I led groups of kindred spirits to the most remote parts of the continents and spent the last two decades on a motorcycle, with good company in the back seat and – no, it wasn’t always Romana.
Yet the book is also, in a way, a love story.About a turbulent life, in which one person has remained the common thread for four decades, weaving and connecting the chapters of a beautiful life. Perhaps KILOMETERS OF LIFE is even a love story. But a different one, sometimes and for some difficult to understand. And perhaps that is precisely why the book can offer you more than just a travelogue.
Sometimes I think: it's a shame I wrote it – because otherwise I would have been very happy to read it.
Hardcover, 24 x 27 cm, 456 pages.
MORE ABOUT THE CONTENT:
If you have lived in Slovenia in recent decades, you have at least been introduced to, if not touched by, the journey of Zvono Šeruga, a world (motorcycle) traveler, in the form of newspaper reports, books or lectures. In almost forty years of his travels, he has accumulated one hundred and thirty countries, nine books, nine motorcycles, eighteen passports and quite a few female companions in the back seat, with Romana being his lifelong companion throughout all this time. Kilometers of Life is his tenth book, which is on the one hand a travel autobiography, as in it he clearly processes both his life (for example, the lesser-known youthful part) and all the key, sometimes year-long journeys (some of which he has already listed in previous books).
Richly furnished with photographs, spiced with communicative, concise, but also poetic language, the book Kilometers of Life is above all a unique eulogy to life itself, in which Zvone Šeruga always knew what it means to have enough, and therefore he always set out on a new path to reach people. A book about a traveler's life, which also teaches how to live joyfully and vitally, was an opportunity to have a few words with its author.
