The fairy tale about the cat in slippers was masterfully illustrated by Ančka Gošnik Godec, who, like Ela Peroci, is one of the most important and most awarded children's authors in Slovenia. The book was first published in 1957 and has been reprinted more than thirty times. It has been translated into numerous foreign languages and has been performed as a puppet play many times at home and abroad. The cat in slippers has marked every childhood and youth in Slovenia.
Ančka Gošnik Godec is the recipient of the 2024 Rihard Jakopič Award for Lifetime Achievement.
