Nominated for Book of the Year 2021! A new book by popular radio personality Miha Šalehar, author of the bestseller The Spirit of Something, sold in more than 5,500 copies! Šalehar, the eternal adventurer of error, on the threshold of the second half of the pathetic manual for understanding the approaching alpha male, searches for the key answer in 40 self-analyses on how to make sense of the future. At the same time, he reveals his mistakes and delusions from the past to readers without censorship. All in the name of transforming into a rider of hope. Will he succeed?
"When you wake up one morning, an inexorable fact hits you: instead of the sexy optimal 35 years and 86 kilograms at 190 centimeters, you count 46 and 107. Half of your life is behind you. The statistical office says that even more, because you are male. Come on, half of it is a hand, Miha, if you lie again that we will stop smoking, drinking and eating. But the consolation that there is still half ahead of you is the most miserable, because there are no instructions as to what this half even is. What should a person look forward to in the next stage? Should I go into politics? Should I think of a mistress? A new image?"
On the threshold of the second half
Miha Šalehar, a popular radio host, presenter, sporadically obsessive athlete, cycling businessman, ex-husband and current partner, father of two children, owner of a big bike, motorbike, Romanian car, seven helmets, three grills, a harpoon and a trailer with a flat rate, an eternal adventurer of error and a rider of hope, on the threshold of the second half, in 40 self-analyses he is looking for the key answer to how to make sense of the future. The corpus of the second half, Notranji pir, Ločitev od ločitve, Fot'r, ti si šupak, Am I normal?, Mi je ratalo?, Pejmo se mal' biznis … Miha never lets us go from the opening Predjamr to the closing Pojamr. We laugh a lot, nod a lot and here and there, recognizing the familiar, we swallow a hard and bitter dumpling.
Sparkling and incredibly honest writing
This time Šalehar lets us get dangerously close – he breaks his capillary oath of silence and allows us to count the mashed potatoes in the fridge, the flannels in the closet, peek into divorce papers, follow the educational blather of a certain foster parent, the hellish torment of paying the bills, administering the Furs, and the like. The perfect finishing touch to this pathetic manual for understanding the coming-of-age alpha males are the witty illustrations by Neja Engelsberger, Mihi's favorite Neja in the world, who she supposedly drew in both the literal and figurative sense.
At twenty, anything is possible – but at fifty?
At twenty, anything is possible – at fifty, you are everything that is possible, says Šalehar. "And also: Fuck, my team, I have no idea. In reality, I am that creature of error that adorns the cover. A poser who has exchanged attention and other shortcuts for true love. Even more in reality, that poor little man, a caricature, half a child in an adult body, who is looking for himself among the letters of this book. An adventurer of error who hopes to find himself one day. /…/ Enjoy reading a pathetic manual for understanding the occasional adventurers of error. Maybe you can find yourself somewhere. Maybe it will help you understand someone better. Maybe you will find that you are not alone.
MEDIA ABOUT THE BOOK:
- "We laugh a lot at The Adventurer of Error, nod a lot, and here and there swallow a hard and bitter lump in recognition of the familiar." - Delo
- "Although he subtitled the book [...] as 'a pathetic manual for understanding the coming-of-age alpha male', it would be difficult to agree that his writing is pathetic, as he does not feel sorry for himself as he finds himself (almost) on the threshold of fifty, let alone come across as a 'grumpy old man', which happens all too often to some middle-aged writers. On the contrary, his self-analysis, which he imparts in forty short chapters, is refreshing, full of common sense and, of course, the cynicism that his listeners so adore." - Marketing Magazin
- "A great read that makes us laugh with a hint of bitterness. Because we are (or will be) all in the same boat." - Liza & Maja
- "The chapter on divorce is so delicious that it makes you think that a person would get married just to be able to get divorced." - Borut Mehle, Dnevnik
- "As a companion on his adventure, you will definitely enjoy it, regardless of whether you are already a "single man" or are just on your way there, and female companions will also be more forgiving of their "alpha males" who face similar life dilemmas because of his writings." - www.marketingmagazin.si
- "Honest, cynical, sarcastic, funny, teasing, scolding, provocative, stumbling, fearless and a bunch of other adjectives I could list. I can also admit that Šalehar made me laugh a lot this time, but about the same number of times I froze a little from sheer terror, wondering what was in store for me. A man, a man over 40, will find himself in what is written. Maybe even recognize himself?" - maticpise.com
