Radko Polič Rac could have become a forester or a surgeon, but in the end he chose the profession of an actor, mastered it to the extreme and achieved practically everything he could. The book uncovers and intertwines memories of his life and creative path, revealing that he is just as passionate and demanding off stage as he is on stage. It follows him back to his childhood, which he spent displaced between Črnomelj, Belgrade, Berlin and Ljubljana in the turbulent post-war years, explains his lifelong connection with his parents and brothers, and evokes memories of his three marriages, from which he has two adult sons.
It presents his approach to bringing roles to life, captures his understanding of the beautiful and difficult profession of acting, and speaks firsthand about the many unforgettable characters he has created on stage and screen.
Play is not pretending, but walking over the edge, just like life, says Radko Polič Rac. Play is what you are."Race's memoirs are an interesting, dynamic, and instructive read, revealing a rich historical backdrop behind the person portrayed, before which they present a carefully crafted portrait of an individual, indomitable and bold, outstanding and therefore sometimes, despite his creative enthusiasm, also tiring." - Matej BogatajSoftcover, 16.5 x 24.5 cm, 500 pages.
