Slovenian mountain path: From Maribor to the Adriatic Sea
As a response to the growing interest of foreigners in the Slovenian Mountain Trail, we have also published a guidebook Slovenian Mountain Trail in English and in a single volume. It also contains advice for a safer visit to the Slovenian mountains.
Softcover, 13.3 x 21 cm, 216 pages.
The text of the book is in English.
The Slovenian Mountaineering Trail (SPP) was opened in 1953 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of organized mountaineering in Slovenia at the initiative of its founding father, Ivan Šumljak (1899-1984). It leads from the northeast to the southwest of Slovenia through most of the mountainous region – from Maribor via Pohorje, the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, the Karavanke Mountains, the Julian Alps, the Idrija Hills, the Trnovski Gozd, Nanos, Vremščica and Slavnik to Debeli Rtič on the Adriatic Sea. It is the most popular connecting trail in Slovenia and one of the oldest in Europe and the world.
Gorazd Gorišek leads us across Pohorje, the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Karavanke Mountains, Mojca Stritar Kučuk across the Julian Alps, and Andraž Poljanec across the pre-Alpine world and the Karst all the way to the Slovenian Sea. The guide was translated into English by Gorazd Pipenbaher.
"The authors of the Slovenian Mountain Trail guide have put all their knowledge and experience into the descriptions. All three are renowned writers of mountaineering literature, with extensive experience in the mountains, who already have an exceptional literary and mountaineering mileage behind them. /…/ What is particularly impressive is the approach to presenting the stages, which are adapted to the needs and wishes of users. A short introductory description is followed by a profile picture and a map, with information on the length of the route and altitudes and walking times on the side. Possible ascents to peaks, points of interest along the route and descents into the valley or to the urban environment are also highlighted in the margin. Information about huts will be welcome, where a QR code has been added as a novelty - for skilled smartphone users. All of this is enhanced by interesting larger photographs that have a motivating effect on potential participants of this route. The Slovenian Mountain Trail Guide is an accurate and reliable source of data necessary for the mountaineering exploits of all those who want to fully experience this route."
