Slovenian Mountaineering Through Time
"Ten years after the first edition, the Mountaineering Association of Slovenia decided to publish a revised and expanded edition of the monograph titled Slovensko planinstvo skozi čas, this time only in the Slovenian language. This task was also entrusted to historians Dr. Peter Mikša and Dr. Kornelija Ajlec, who are actively engaged in contemporary Slovenian history, the history of the mountain world, and the history of associations."

Before you is a book that, with an abundance of pictorial material, offers an insight into the development of Slovenian mountaineering. The book is structured chronologically, from the first visits to the Slovenian mountains to the present day. The main emphasis is on organized mountaineering, as the book is intended, among other things, to promote the largest umbrella mountaineering organization in our country – the Mountaineering Association of Slovenia. For more demanding readers, it is important that sources and literature are consistently cited throughout the text, which allows for a more detailed acquaintance with the material used. Therefore, the book is not just a general historical overview, but a comprehensive scientific work.
The book is roughly divided into Slovenian mountaineering before and after World War II and has a total of 70 chapters and several subchapters. It is also richly illustrated, with over 300 units of pictorial material, as well as around 40 explanatory paragraphs. The comprehensiveness of this monograph reveals the long and rich history of Slovenian mountaineering.
The authors have made an effort to prepare the monograph in a way that makes the material interesting for readers who are unfamiliar with the topic, while at the same time offering more demanding readers an extensive collection of concentrated data and reference notes for further research.
Slovenian Mountaineering is not written (only) for connoisseurs, but is primarily intended for the general public. In words and pictures, it introduces readers to the history of Slovenia's most popular sports organization and an industry that is part of our culture and national identity.
